“文心铸魂——吴为山雕塑艺术国际巡展·联合国特展”

Ladies and gentlemen，

Mrs Ban and I are honoured to attend this opening ceremony.

I thank the government of China and Prof. Wu Weishan for bringing this enlightening exhibit to the United Nations.

The sculptures embody not just the soul of a nation but of all humanity.

I look at the figures of the children and they immediately remind me of the girls and women who take the UN as their frontline fighting for dignity， equality， and opportunity.

And when I see the busts of Confucius， I recall my own childhood.

I was brought up with the traditional education system based on Confucius thought， and I was deeply effected by it throughtout my life.

Confucius thought that“ To put the world in order， we must first put the nation in order； to put the nation in order， we must put the family in order； to put the family in order， we must cultivate our personal life； and to cultivate our personal life， we must first set our hearts right. ”

These words are as true today as ever. Here at the United Nations we deal with global issues everyday， and to many eyes these probems may seem too huge to resolve.

But any issue can be broken down into small steps and individual solutions.

Any problem can be solved when the heart is set right.

This exhibit highlights the importance and the role of the individual people.

It transfers the information to me that by respecting each other and working together we can create the future we want.

女士们先生们，

能够出席此次展览的开幕仪式，我和我的夫人感到非常荣幸。我要感谢中国政府和吴为山教授将这样一个富于启发性的展览带到联合国来。

这些雕塑作品蕴含的不仅是一个国家，更是全人类的灵魂。

看到中国小女孩的塑像，我立刻联想到那些祈望联合国保护她们的尊严、平等和机遇的女性。

而孔子的雕塑则让我回忆起了自己的童年。我在儒家传统中长大，儒家思想对我一生的发展产生了重大的影响。孔子教导我们：“修身，齐家，治国，平天下。”时至今日，这番话依然是真理。

在联合国，我们所应对的是全球的国际事务。在很多人看来，这些问题似乎太大，太难解决了。其实，任何问题都可以分解成小的步骤和单个行动。只要能做到“正心诚意”就没有解决不了的难题。

这次展览强调了个人作用的重要性。它告诉我，通过彼此尊重及通力协作，我们可以开创我们所企盼的未来。

吴为山教授，我要感谢你用智慧的双手创作出如此杰作并与全世界分享。

Wu Weishan， worldwide renowned sculptor， has engaged in sculpture creation for more than twenty years. In his sculptures， he advocates the integration of the expressive spirit of traditional Chinese art， blazing a new trail of espressive sculpture in China. Now he is a member of the national committee of CPPCC， president of National Art Museum， vice chairman of Chinese Artists Association， and chairman of Chinese Urban Sculptors Association etc. He has participated in various exhibitions and won grand prizes. In 2016， he received the honor of “Cultural Exchange Envoy” from the State Council.

吴为山，著名雕塑家。现为全国政协委员，中国美术馆馆长，中国美术家协会副主席，中国城市雕塑家协会主席，全国城市雕塑艺术委员会主任，中国雕塑院院长、教授、博士生导师。

2003年获英国皇家“攀格林奖”，2009年获新中国城市雕塑建设成就奖，2011年获首届中华艺文奖，2012年获法国美术家协会颁发的国际美术金奖，2014年获美国洛克菲勒“RRC首届中国艺术年度人物”，2015年获得全国中青德艺双馨文艺工作者称号。香港中文大学荣誉院士、文学博士，韩国仁济大学名誉哲学博士，英国皇家雕塑家协会院士（FRBS）。2016年获国务院新闻办颁授的讲好中国故事文化交流使者。

吴为山教授一直以挖掘和精研中国传统文化为人生命题，弘扬和传承中华传统文化。他长期致力于中国文化精神在雕塑创作中的融渗和表现，创作了大量具有影响力的雕塑，在世界多国展览，并被重要博物馆收藏。他创作的近500件中国文化名人系列雕塑，被季羡林等大师誉为“时代造像”，被国际评论界认为是“中国时代新精神的代表”。韩国建有他的雕塑公园，南京博物院等建立“吴为山雕塑馆”，罗马意大利国家博物馆、英国剑桥菲茨威廉博物馆等世界著名博物馆永久安放其作品《齐白石与达芬奇对话》、《孔子》等。代表作《孔子》《孔子问道于老子》立于世界多个国家。联合国秘书长潘基文赞：吴为山作品表现了全人类的灵魂。

吴为山教授首创中国现代写意雕塑之风，提出写意雕塑的理论和“中国雕塑八大风格论”，出版多部理论著作。这是对中国雕塑优秀传统的全面总结，对中国雕塑当下创作的发展方向起到极大的引领作用。

吴为山教授长期以来积极推动当代中国艺术在世界的传播，为中外文化交流做出了重要贡献。
